BERSIAN HISTORY
Centuries before Mars declared war to fight for independence, another big moment occurred in the history of humanity.
Humans started traveling and exploring the universe, and of course, this attracted other species who figured it was time to show that people weren’t the only living, thinking beings in existence. Although many peaceful encounters ensued between the two parties, there were species whose main objective was to exploit Earth’s resources.
Xorgians, brute creatures coming from distant quadrants of the galaxy, decided to take over Earth for their own use. They had already conquered a number of planets, and the rest of the universe started to fear them. For the Xorgians, conquering Earth would be easy. To show their power, a statue was built that was 2.5 meters tall and 250 kg in weight on the battlefield. It was a known fact that they were unbeatable. Thus, the Xorgians could find no match in the humans who hadn’t even developed their space gear to its full capacity.
Deciding to attack and conquer Earth by taking control of the electrical plants, the Xorgians made their first error.
They landed in Bersia, a country in Balkan. The Xorgians were not aware that the land was inhabited by people who were very proud of their heritage as thoroughbred warriors throughout history. Known as great sportsmen due to DNA chain changing, these people were trained to be in immaculate physical shape. Being taller than the average human and very stubborn, they were always ready to fight. True to their nature, if you were to pack one hundred Bersians in one room, a brawl would break out as each Bersian would want to be the main spokesperson leading the group.
You may be wondering why the people of that land never became a great nation as many other people groups did. Simply put, there weren’t enough of them to conquer bigger countries, and they weren’t as technologically advanced as the rest of the humans living on Earth.
The Xorgians, who hadn’t come face-to-face with the Bersians yet, had overestimated the input from their satellites and figured that the takeover would be a walk in the park. But life isn’t as straightforward as mathematics, and Bersian hearts beat much stronger than the mathematical predictions of an event.
Preparing for the first leg of their mission, the Xorgians settled at an electrical plant.
Named “Tesla.” Using the electrical plant’s energy, they wanted to plug in their equipment to prepare for a full invasion. However, they found that the electrical plant was guarded by forty-four Bersian soldiers. The leading General named Stepa, decided, as a true Bersian, not to back down and fought against the Xorgians.
He informed the local government of what was happening and asked for backup.
What was about to happen, nobody could have expected.
A huge fight took place in front of the gates at the Tesla power plant. It started at 5:45 | Friday | October 2322—forty-four Bersian soldiers against sixty Xorgians.
In his speech directed at the Bersians, General Stepa said that they should think about their families and the future of the country. Their ancestors survived and saved the land multiple times, and it was time for them to do the same or die.
With pride taking over, the Bersians fought bravely, and although the attacks persisted late into the night, they claim victory. With every Xorgian soldier eliminated, the Tesla plant was protected once more.
It was a known fact that should the Tesla electrical facility be taken over by the enemy, Bersia would fall and so would one country after another until nothing was left of Earth. However, with the threat of the Tesla plant possibly being overtaken averted, the entire Earth rejoiced.
Sadly, only three Bersian soldiers survived the battle that ended on 23:12 | Friday | 13 October 2322. It was all over the news, and word spread around the galaxy that the Xorgians had been defeated by a species that was never supposed to win against them.
But nonetheless, Bersia celebrated their victory and freedom with great parties where Rakija (a famous Bersian drink made out of plums) was enjoyed in gallons. Honouring the soldiers who had given their lives to save Earth, each and every Bersian joined in on the celebration.
It was said that General Stepa died from a hammer smashing into his head in the last thirty-five minutes of the battle.
The hammer had also broken his ribcage, but he continued to fight until he collapsed on the battlefield. Before he died, he raised three fingers in the air, which meant thirty-five minutes until help arrived. In turn, destiny wanted that same number of soldiers to survive. Thus, three men made it out alive.
To thank Bersia for saving them, the entire Earth shared with them its benefits and provided the winning country with support and gifts. Donations of all kinds rained on the country, and to the Bersian’s delight, they were able to live in comfort.
To commemorate the special victory, Earth decided to build a magnificent monument for General Stepa and all the brave soldiers who fought against the Xorgians. Next to the Tesla power plant, a carving of three raised fingers about forty meters in height was erected to remind future generations of what the Bersians did.
From then on, every year on October 13, the people of Bersia and the rest of Earth gathered around the monument to celebrate the soldiers who had sacrificed their own lives to give the rest of humanity a chance at a better life.
